the Committee.
As regards the other works mentioned
which are not put forward for immediate approval,
I do not see how the new gaol, public offices and
school could be brought within the scope of the
Fund. The new General Civil Hospital is a measure
for promoting public health and the vehicular ferry
is an improvement of internal transport and
communications.
These two items may, therefore,
be worth consideration when details are available.
The Governor is apparently also thinking of getting
the help of the Fund in floating a loan for water
works and other public works. He does not give
details, but considerable further expenditure on
water works has already been authori seu, and
if it is this he has in mind I do not think it ould
be brought within the scope of the Fund for the
ready
reason always stated.
Further work on the develop-
ment of water supplies is under consideration, and when details are available it may be possible to
invoke the Fund's assistance for this.
Copies of the Colonial Development Act and
the Circulars sent out to the Colonies are attached.
